Alpine lake in the Eastern Sierra 🏞️

Most alpine lakes 💧 in the Eastern Sierra have snow on the surrounding mountains 🏔️ year‑round. About 80% of the larger lakes hold fish 🐟 even at high elevation, though many high‑mountain lakes were originally fishless. Some remain fishless today to protect species like the Sierra Nevada yellow‑legged frog 🐸, and not every lake is stocked anymore.
